Public safety-focused Fight for Austin PAC announces first endorsement: Mackenzie Kelly in District 6

Mackenzie Kelly was endorsed by a newly formed PAC designed to, as its name suggests, fight for the future of Austin. See below for the press release.

AUSTIN -- Fight for Austin PAC, which was created by six Austinites of diverse backgrounds to support candidates who prioritize public safety, is announcing their first endorsement of the 2020 election cycle: Mackenzie Kelly for City Council in District 6.

District 6 is currently represented by Jimmy Flannigan, who voted for the homeless camping ordinance and the $150 million cut in the police budget, and who has repeatedly called for firing Austin Police Chief Brian Manley.

Here is a joint statement from the Fight for Austin Board:

“Mackenzie Kelly has been running on a platform of restoring public safety for more than a year. If we want to change the direction at City Hall, we must change our city council. While there are two good candidates running as challengers, we are confident that Mackenzie Kelly is running the strongest campaign and has the best chance to win. We encourage all Austinites who want a safe city to join us in helping Mackenzie Kelly win this race.”

Kelly has pledged to restore funding for the Austin Police.

“I pledge to support any measure that discourages defunding the police and I will advocate for funding and additional officers when elected to office,” said Kelly.

Additionally, Kelly has pledged to reinstate the homeless camping ban.

“Homelessness is up across the city by 11% and the City Council's failed policies have done nothing to remedy the problem,” said Kelly. “It’s time to step up and have new leadership come up with solutions to this growing problem that is plaguing our city.”

Fight for Austin PAC has six founding board members:
