Former Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell endorses Kelly for commitment to law enforcement, public safety

AUSTIN — Lifetime Austin resident and community servant Mackenzie Kelly finished the fundraising period closing in on $19,000 and with an endorsement from the most-recent mayor of Austin.

Lee Leffingwell, the two-term Austin Mayor serving from 2009-15, endorsed Kelly on Tuesday, pointing to her support of the law enforcement community as her No. 1 qualification.

Leffingwell, a Navy veteran and former commercial airline pilot, was notable for his work to preserve Austin's natural resources and to make city government more transparent.

"I couldn't be more humbled to receive this endorsement from a widely respected Austin leader," Kelly said. "I will do everything I can to take up the torch and fight for transparency and accountable government at Austin City Hall."

The endorsement was preceded by former District 6 Council member Don Zimmerman, the first 10-1 representative for the Northwest Austin district (2014-16) who pioneered many constituent service reforms including video comments and the first Council field office.

Mackenzie Kelly will fight to lower runaway property taxes, reduce regulatory burdens on Austin's business community, and push for an external city audit. Learn more about her and her campaign at facebook.com/mackenzieforaustin.
